A bunch of us from SoCal drove north about 10 hours into the Northern Sierras. There's a small old mining town there called Downieville where each year they host a big, grass-roots mountain bike race called the Classic. After racing there a few times in years past, we fell in love with this town and the surrounding mountains and trails. Now many of us that no longer race still want to head back up there, and we do it in style! Bikes, camping gear, plenty of beer, and gourmet food (courtesy of our good friends Jon and Missy), it's a weekend that we look forward to each year.
Our good friend, Andy, helps organize this weekend each year. This is the second year in a row when we, along with mountain bikers from all over (i.e., Washington, Oregon, NorCal, and SoCal), meet up and ride, drink incredible beer, camp and repeat! This year's trip was exceptional. We road some new trails, drank some new local brews, created our own snowy slip and slide, and had some killer campfires. I hope Andy continues to organize this trip each year...

Jeana and I tried to take slip and sliding to a whole new level. We kept going and going until all of a sudden the hill turned into a steep drop off. Think Cliffhanger, complete with hanging onto a tree with one hand... Gravity prevailed and we ended up in a mud pit. Awesome!

It was warm out, but the water was coooollldd! That didn't stop some of us from checking out the rock jumps. We sent Andy first to make sure it was deep enough.
